Life As a House – wasn’t promoted a lot, but WATCH IT –
Here’s the real kicker – most men I know who’ve watched this like it,
too. For teens – some offensive language and sexual situations but the
ending will touch them. Kevin Cline and Hayden Christian (from Star
Wars) The first time I saw this movie, I was floored by its emotional
impact; as I walked out of the theater (I’d gone to two movies in a row
that night because my husband and sons were on their first and only
camping trip with all of them without me), anyway, as I walked out of
the theater, I overheard a guy say to his girlfriend/wife “Man, I
almost cried there at the end.” I went back with my husband to see it
later, and he liked it, too. There’s one scene in which Kevin Cline and
Kristin Scott Thomas dance together as the son looks on at his divorced
parents and sees a glimmer of the caring they still have for one
another. Beautiful! Also a scene in which a dying Cline and his ex-wife
look at a video of their son when he was younger.
Ordinary People - 1980 Academy-award winner for Best Picture – About relationships – Mary Tyler Moore, Donald Sutherland, and Timothy Hutton
The Sound of Music – Best Picture in 1965 – To me, it’s
got everything – gorgeous scenery, romance, something for kids, and
even history . I still the most romantic scenes in all of cinema are:
in the Greenhouse when the Captain admits his love to Maria and tells
her he’s not marrying another lady by saying, “Well, you can’t marry
someone, when you’re in love with someone else . . . can you?” And the
other moment is when Maria is showing the children how to do an
Austrian folk dance; the Captain cuts in to dance with her and she
blushes as they have intense eye contact. One of the children tells her
she’s blushing, and she says, “I supposed I’m not used to dancing”.
